November marks the National Adoption Awareness Month. Every November, there is a Collective effort to raise awareness of the fact that there are over 100,000 children, that are in Foster Care, waiting for a permanent and loving home.
On September 26, 2015 the Mount Rubidoux SDA Church in Riverside hosted an evening program entitled,"Should I Adopt?" This was an adoption awareness event that featured a panel discussion with social workers from Riverside County and San Bernardino County, as well as church members who have adopted. Approximately 60 church members and community members were in attendance. In the space where the event was held, giant portraits featuring the nine families from Mt. Rubidoux Church that have adopted or are fostering, created a perimeter around the event space. The portraits also have a text area which tells the story of how these families came to adopt and what adoption means to them. These portraits were done by Troy Bogar Photography, and to me they were the highlight of the event! They were beautifully done and they made the event more personable and relevant to the attendees as they were able to see the faces of the families with the adopted children and read their stories. Thank you Troy Bogar Photography!
